Child's Play
Based exclusively on the McMichaels permanent collection, Childs Play is an
educational exhibition exploring the theme of children in Canadian art.
Curated by the education and programs department at the McMichael, this exhibition is
strongly narrative in character. The twenty-five presented works offer a glimpse into the
intimate world of childhood and parenthood, where along the usual conveyance of love, joy
and dreams, there is a sombre anxiety or a sense of struggle in coping with reality.
Childs Play examines the challenge of growing up in a world infused with the social
and political conflicts of adultsa world in which even childs play
is not as simple and straightforward as it may appear. |

Following in the Footsteps of the Group of Seven Art enthusiasts, James
and Susan Waddington have a dream of identifying the exact locations that are represented

(Georgian Bay) in pursuit of the Group's excursions of some 100 years ago. Following
in the Footsteps of the Group of Seven will showcase the art of Franklin Carmichael,
A.Y. Jackson, A.J. Casson, Arthur Lismer, and J.E.H. MacDonald alongside present day

Dorothy Knowles: Land Marks The Dorothy Knowles: Land Marks
retrospective exhibition offers an informed overview of the landscape artist's exemplary
body of work. At first glance, the artist's humble and natural subject matter can be
underestimated or overlooked. However, Knowles radically chose to document her own
backyard during a time when abstract art was rapidly gaining ground. This exhibition
celebrates Knowles' favourite subjects—the lush river valleys and prairie
landscapes that characterized her rural childhood. |
