Act I - Cinderella works from early morning. Her true friends, the Mice, help her. Her
Step-sisters get up and start quarrelling. The Step-mother stops her own children, whom
she loves, and vents her anger, instead, on Cinderella, whom she hates. Cinderella stays
alone, and the Fairy appears as the memory of her mother. She entertains Cinderella,
calling Ladybugs and Flower Fairies to dance for her. The Step-mother returns and is angry
at Cinderellas good humour. The Step-sisters and their friends return with shopping
bags and show each other their new things for the Court Ball. A Dance Teacher arrives to
prepare them for the Ball. He is not happy with them until Cinderella joins the class.
Everyone leaves for the Ball and Cinderella stays alone, trying on a dress left behind and
dreaming of the Prince. The Fairy appears with the Crystal Shoes for Cinderella. The
Flower Fairies present her with a dress; the Mice give her a crown. Deer are ready to take
her to the Ball. The Fairy tells Cinderella that Elves will notify her just before
midnight, as her dress will turn into an old robe at 12 oclock. Cinderella leaves
for the Ball. |
