Crash Test Dummies

The Studio at Hamilton Place

There is no mistaking Brad Roberts' voice. He may look like an average guy, now in his mid- 40s, but then he opens his mouth and his majestic baritone voice immediately conjures fond memories of such Crash Test Dummies hits at "Mmm, Mmm, Mmm, Mmm" and "Superman." Perhaps best remembered for the acerbic folk rock sound of 1991's The Ghosts That Haunt Me and 1993's God Shuffled His Feet, there have nonetheless been enough hits for the band over the years to merit a couple of greatest hits packages. Through it all, the band with Roberts at the helm has touched on funk and soul, folk, electronic music and even Christmas tunes. Yet it is Roberts' voice and offbeat lyrical sensibility that have been this beloved band's calling cards since their founding twenty years ago.

John McDermott - A Salute to Veterans Past and Present

Hamilton Place

"Legend" is not a title John McDermott would readily embrace, but his accomplishments have become legendary in recording industry lore. He calls Toronto and Boston home, but he has also found a home as an international recording star and household name – known as much for his successful musical career as for his commitment to veterans' causes. He is a long way from the man for whom singing was a hobby less than ten years ago. John was discovered quite by chance, when working as a circulation sales representative for the Toronto Sun, he belted out an impromptu rendition of "Danny Boy" at a company party.

Johnny Reid

Hamilton Place

When Johnny Reid decided to name his new record Dance With Me, it was as much an invitation to his fans to get up and dance, as it was a call to celebrate the things that bring you home, even if home is thousands of miles away. Over the past two years, Reid's 2007 sophomore effort, Kickin' Stones, has been kickin' ass. Certified Platinum in Canada, it has garnered the Scottish Born, Nashville based Canadian singer/songwriter CCMA's for Top-Selling Canadian Recording and Top Male Artist in 2008, as well as a Juno nomination for Country Recording of the Year. Its also gone a long way to establishing Reid as an undeniably bright star in the Canadian Country Music firmament, yielding two top ten radio singles in Love Sweet Love, and Kickin' Stones, and the runaway hit, Darlin', which sailed into both the top five at radio, and the number one spot on CMT last year.

Rita MacNeil and Frank Mills - The Spirit of Christmas

Hamilton Place

Two Canadian legends will come together this winter to bring you a memorable evening of seasonal entertainment.

Singer/songwriter Rita MacNeil will be joined on tour by composer and pianist extraordinaire Frank Mills.
Rita's Christmas tours are synonymous with the celebration of this very special time of the year. As the tour started to come together, Rita began to think about a special guest. With 2010 marking the 30th anniversary of Frank Mill's phenomenally successful single "Music Box Dancer", Rita wondered if she could coerce Frank to join her.

Frank, happily in semi-retirement, was surprised by the call but after careful consideration decided to take to the stage one more time!

Both Rita and Frank have enjoyed tremendous success with their Christmas albums and ensuing tours over the years. Together there are plans to combine select songs from each of their Christmas releases into a compilation and add a couple of new tracks to produce the definitive seasonal CD! It will be a wonderful evening of entertainment – songs woven in amongst the stories – a night of memories.

The Arrogant Worms "Christmas Turkey"

The Studio at Hamilton Place
www.arrogantworms.com/

Sensing a desperate public need for musical comedy, The Arrogant Worms was formed. The Arrogant Worms began as a comedy troupe performing songs and sketches on the campus radio station in 1991. As the live show developed, the songs delighted the audience. The sketches – not so much.

It began as a hobby, making fun of a big dumb world. Luckily, the world is still dumb and The Arrogant Worms (Mike McCormick, Chris Patterson and Trevor Strong) still have plenty to sing about. The shows are fast, furious and family friendly. The wit is quick, the satire is biting and the musicianship is second to none. Their appeal has earned them fans from kids to parents to grandparents to Princess Leia.

Shen Yun

Hamilton Place
www.shenyunperformingarts.org

Shen Yun presents colorful and exhilarating performances of classical Chinese dance and music. A performance by Shen Yun is a presentation of traditional Chinese culture as it once was: a study in grace, wisdom, and the virtues distilled from the five millennia of Chinese civilization. Every year, Shen Yun unveils an entirely new lineup of dances, songs, and musical scores. At the core of Shen Yun's performances is classical Chinese dance with China's numerous ethnic and folk dance styles rounding out the evening. In an evening consisting of a collection of short pieces, audiences travel from the Himalayas to tropical lake-filled regions; from the legends of the culture's creation over 5,000 years ago through to the story of Falun Dafa in China today; from the highest heavens down to the dusty plateaus of the Middle Kingdom.

In addition to recording and producing his own material, he also shares his production skills with other talent and is quickly making a name for himself as a producer and mixer.
