BARBADOS CHARITY BALL
Metro Toronto Convention CentreThis
year we will be hosting the fifth annual Barbados Charity Ball at the Metro Toronto
Convention Centre where the ballroom will be transformed into a "Magical Journey
Under The Sea." Funds raised from the ball provide scholarships at York University
and other Canadian educational institutions and programs and support for youth with
HIV/AIDS. Barbadians consider education to be most important and the government has set a
goal of having at least one university graduate in every household.
This event is also an effort to continue towards a much stronger relationship with Canada
and Barbados.
Music and entertainment will be provided by a first class Barbadian band and international
award winning jazz saxophonist, Arturo Tappin, as well as John King, a Barbadian whose
repertoire includes calypso, soca, reggae and Barbadian folk music. Both Arturo and John
have performed with international artists such as R & B and jazz legends, Arturo with
Roberta Flack, Ellis Marsalis and many others and John with Ben E. King, Kenny Rogers to
name a few. As usual the meal always has a taste of Barbadian (Bajan as we call ourselves)
cuisine.
