RBC Theatre, Living Arts Centre

Join us for an intimate evening as part of our Relaxed Series, complete with dessert and beverage service in a cabaret style setting on the main level.

Kick off the holiday season with an evening of quick-witted musical comedy dedicated to the songs of Christmas! Celebrating 20 years of performing, the Canadian comedy trio of The Arrogant Worms continue to dazzle audiences with fast, furious and funny songs and sketches.

Sensing a desperate public need for musical comedy, The Arrogant Worms (Mike McCormick, Chris Patterson and Trevor Strong) began performing songs and sketches on the Queen's University campus radio station in 1991. The wit is quick, the satire is biting and the musicianship is second to none. Their appeal has earned them fans from kids to parents to grandparents to Princess Leia.

The Arrogant Worms have sold more than 150,000 copies of their 12 albums and have played on three continents to crowds as large as 100,000. They were recognized in 2003 as the Touring Act of the Year by the Canadian Arts Presenters Association. The Worms have entertained at corporate functions, sung anthems at sporting events and emceed at major festivals. Their songs are in school lesson plans, in textbooks and even played on the Space Shuttle. On earth or in space, everyone digs these Worms!

In recent years the Worms have been pleased to donate their time and talent to the cause of literacy in Canada through Frontier College and were awarded the Peter Gzowski Award for their efforts.

The Arrogant Worms "Christmas Turkey"

The Studio at Hamilton Place

Three quarters of a quarter of a century ago, something magnificent happened in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Sensing a desperate public need for musical comedy, The Arrogant Worms was formed. The Arrogant Worms began as a comedy troupe performing songs and sketches on the campus radio station in 1991. As the live show developed, the songs delighted the audience. The sketches – not so much.

Mike McCormick – plays guitar and sings. He enjoys short walks on gravel, golf and ice cream. He is a member of every hotel and airline loyalty program. He talks back to the GPS. A lot.

Chris Patterson – plays bass and sings. His life-long dream of becoming an Olympic athlete was dashed at a young age on account of he’s not very athletic. He has recently released a children’s album called “Small Potatoes.”

Trevor Strong – sings and counts merchandise. Trevor enjoys history but has a poor memory. He knows more than you but he can’t remember it.

Dream sequences referencing literature and pop-culture are created through dance that mimic the world of dreams; falling asleep leads to the sinking of the Titanic, which then turns into a Romeo and Juliet duet on a sea of love; Ophelia, running away from Hamlet, ends up in the world of Dracula. Engage your students in critical thinking around contemporary dance as the work takes students through a vivid kinetic and sensory journey.

SHO, MO & THE MONKEY BUNCH

RBC Theatre, Living Arts Centre

Get your little ones excited about the arts and join our Wiggle Club for family fun! This performance is for ages 3 & up. Babies 18 months & under are free and must have a ticket to enter the theatre.

Sho, Mo and the Monkey Bunch is for parents who love music - and want their kids to do the same! This high-energy show, full of humour and a variety of music, including honky-tonk, nursery rhymes and rock 'n' roll, will have kids going bananas while learning to care for themselves, their friends and their environment.

Shoshana Sperling (Sho) and Maury LaFoy (Mo) came together to create a CD for the children in their family and soon they were overwhelmed with requests for copies of their new creation. They began to write songs using the musical stylings and humour of artists such as Louie Armstrong, Steve Martin, Shirley Temple and Canada's own Sarah McLachlan.

Each song performed by Sho, Mo and the Monkey Bunch pays tribute to a different style of music and uses humour to both entertain and involve the audience. Along with Maury LaFoy (Mo), the musical Monkey Bunch also includes Graham Powell and Lyle Molzan, all of whom are members of Jann Arden's band.

For shows in RBC Theatre, Living Arts Centre, seating is general admission by level with mats placed in front of the stage so children can be close to the action. Free juice and snacks for all children after each RBC performance.
